Most countertop companies describe themselves by the stone they sell. We would rather describe ourselves by the appointment that decides whether the stone fits, which is template day.

Why Template Day Runs Everything

When a templater arrives, they record the room as it physically stands. Cabinet run lengths, wall angles, the bow in a wall that looks straight, the exact opening for a slide in range, the real outside radius of the sink sitting in its box on the floor. All of it goes into a file, and that file goes to a saw that cuts stone to a tolerance no hand tool would hold.

The saw is not going to argue with the file. So if the cabinets were a quarter of an inch out of level, that is now cut in. If the sink on site was not the sink that eventually gets plumbed, the cutout will be wrong at the corners. If the wall gets refloated the week after, the backsplash edge will show a gap.

None of that is a fabrication problem, but it always arrives looking like one.

What We Do Differently About It

We tell people what has to be true before we will take a template, and we would rather move an appointment by three days than take a template we both know is provisional. Cabinets fastened and shimmed. Sink and any drop in appliance physically on site. Old tops out where possible. Walls finished.

We also settle the decisions that people usually defer. Where the seams land. Which edge profile. How much overhang, and whether it needs a bracket or corbel underneath. Those are five minute conversations standing in the room and expensive ones after the fact.

The Rest of It

We walk slab yards with customers rather than sending photographs. We are honest about remnants, because a laundry top or a small vanity out of an offcut is often the right answer and there is no reason to sell a full slab for it. We are equally honest about direct sun in this climate, which affects some engineered quartz in ways granite is not bothered by.
